You have OPTIONS!
My regular office setting is available in historic downtown McKinney.
An additional option for therapy is equine-assisted counseling which is available on a ranch
in a beautiful country setting.  The ranch is located just north of the Dallas/Ft. Worth
metroplex  in Aubrey, TX.

Issues that are addressed include:

  • anxiety
  • abuse
  • anger
  • communication
  • conflict resolution
  • divorce recovery
  • grief
  • group dynamics
  • marriage
  • parenting
  • post-traumatic stress disorder
  • self-esteem
  • trust

Cognitive behavioral therapy is the "Gold Standard" for counseling.
Equine-assisted counseling is cognitive behavioral therapy is motion.
No experience with horses is necessary.  Clients participate in all
ground activities with the horses - no riding is involved.  The quality
of your life can improve.
Come experience the peace of the countryside and the growth that
equine-assisted counseling offers.

It is worth your time, effort, and energy.

Conflict Resolution

Conflicts frequently are handled in two ways:
1) War of Words
2) Cold War
Neither of these methods of resolving conflict works.

So what does?

Becoming Solution Focused instead of Blame Focused
1) Name the issue
2) Attack the issue as partners
3) Stay on the issue and do not expand the issue to include problems from the past.
4) Brainstorm for solutions
5) Consider the pros and cons of each possible solution
6) As a couple, select one to try
7) Re-asses and "tweak" if needed

The more you attack issues as partners the more emotionally connected you will be as a couple.
Attack the issue and not each other
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Communication

Be careful how you package your words - They might just come back to bite you!!!
Have you ever noticed that your spouse goes on the defensive?
Here's something that might help.  Ask yourself how you packaged your words.
Did it sound like a criticism?  Could it have come across as an attack?
Did you start with the word - Why?   Did you start with the word - You?
If so, your spouse might have felt a need to defend himself/herself.

Would you be willing to try something different?

Buried in every criticism is a request.  Ask yourself - What is it I really want?
Then make a request instead of a criticism.  This will likely lead to a conversation
and a solution rather than a fight.

Also, if you use a soft start-up instead of a harsh start-up, you will find yourself having
more conversations and fewer fights.
Example of a harsh start-up:  You work too much.  You never make time for me.
Example of a soft start-up:   I really miss you since you've had to work late.  Could we
arrange some time together this week-end?

The way you package your words has everything to do with the words you receive back,
so package them carefully.
